Pocket Network's Weekly Relay Recap 37 talks about node infrastructure statistics, blockchain partnerships and more news.
📡Weekly Relay Recap 37 🛰

Over the last week (08/19 to 08/25), the Pocket Network protocol has successfully relayed over 142.6M application requests and settled at 4,931 nodes.

Weekly Relay Recap & Analysis by Marco 👋 | @TMod_Marco

This past week marked another major accomplishment of successfully processing close to 150M relays in a single week. Looking at the chart, one can see a massive spike to 28.78M relays on August 20th, with a pullback after that.

The pullback takes us back to ~13M relays avg. per day on the network, which is a very nice range to be at.

☝ The graph (and table below) shows a healthy uptrend, with pullbacks settling at higher and higher averages.

Over 1.4M POKT got distributed between the block producers, node providers and DAO last week. That’s a massive reward! With 89% going to nodes, that means 1.27M was distributed to nodes, adding up to a solid ~257 POKT per node!

The (soon to be released to the public) POKTscan dashboard shows an interesting change in the number of relays per blockchain. This past week, Fuse showed clear spikes with a large number of relays around the same time of each day. Whereas xDAI was the largest relay producer until the 22nd of August. On the 23rd, a clear drop is visible in the number of relays on xDAI per day.*

Monthly Community Call & more
Become more involved with Pocket Network and participate in our monthly community call, and/or office hours! Here’s the current list of upcoming events:

  • Wednesday, September 1st (01:00PM EDT): Node runner office hour, for all your advice and information about running a node.
  • Thursday, September 2nd (01:00PM EDT): DAO office hour. Our office hours are accessible for everyone, if you have input for the DAO or want to participate in our brainstorm sessions and discussions, then feel free to tune in.

And probably the most relevant one for many: The Monthly Community Call (September 3rd, 12:00PM EDT). During this monthly call, we’ll be discussing a range of topics including protocol upgrades, DAO proposals, community projects, and much more. These calls are perfect for brainstorming and collecting information. It is also one of the best opportunities to help shape the future of decentralized infra!

PEP-9: Fuse Token Swap
Speaking of (DAO) proposals, PEP-9 is currently being discussed on the forum. So far, there have been nothing but positive reactions to the proposal and Jack mentioned voting opens tomorrow.

In this proposal, it is proposed to do a direct token swap of 250K POKT for 750k FUSE. These tokens would be locked for one year in the receiving addresses. The FUSE tokens would be owned by the Pocket DAO and held/managed by the Pocket Foundation.

Cross-community governance is important to help decentralize decision-making power. FUSE Network has already driven a lot of relays to the network and this could result in more network growth.

For the full proposal and all details, please read this forum thread.

News

xDAI Archival (000C) is now whitelisted!
You can now serve xDAI Archival relays and earn POKT.

DO NOT add 000C to your pocket node stake until you have ensured your xDAI Archival node is working correctly, otherwise your Pocket node will be slashed.

Endpoints are not available in the Portal yet but our Settlers of New Chains program provides a baseline of relays to cover your infra costs. We'll share more once the service is made available to Portal users.

Remember our xDAI and Polygon announcement? We’d love to highlight some of our community member’s responses to these announcements, as we’ve been excited to see such positive responses and words about Pocket Network!

… and for those of you that are as excited about us about wPOKT:

Those that keep a close eye on our social channels, probably also spotted these two great shout outs by Omen Prediction Markets and Arweave:

What can you do to drive relays and add nodes to the network?

Apps and App users.
If you care about privacy and decentralization, replace the default network provider in your MetaMask wallet with actual decentralized node infrastructure by adding a Pocket-powered RPC endpoints for Ethereum, Avalanche, xDAI, Fuse, and/or Polygon through the custom rpc settings!

Try out any of these other apps listed in the Conscious Dappitalism page within our new docs .

You can also earn a skill-role in our Discord community server for dogfooding any of those applications by completing a quest within the POKT arcade.

Nodes
Don’t know how to run a node? Check out the Node Runner docs above to learn how.

Try out Node Pilot, it’s the most user-friendly option to spin up both base layer blockchain nodes and Pocket nodes.

If you run into any issues,  a community of node runners (and our support team) would be happy to help. If you’d prefer to not run a node yourself, check out the forum for a list of node providers offering their services to people interested in participating in the ecosystem.

How to purchase POKT to stake?

When you are ready to take the step forward in supporting decentralized node infrastructure and earning Pocket’s native cryptocurrency for serving apps then visit any of these community-established OTCs:

SubZero OTC

Thunderhead OTC

They are the best way to buy or sell POKT; and it helps nodes cover the cost of their infrastructure. Join either private telegram channels (requires telegram) and message the admin to get started. Note that there are fees associated with the OTCs to help cover their costs and that neither Pocket Network, Inc., the Pocket DAO, nor the Pocket Foundation receives any of these fees nor any proceeds from the sale of POKT through the OTCs.
